Healthy balanced and delicious family

Hi and welcome! I’m Susannah, and I can’t wait to share nutrition tips and healthy recipes with you on this blog! Since Mother’s Day was Sunday, I thought I would begin by introducing myself and saying “Thank you” to my mother. Just a little bit about me first…I am a mom. I have 3 girls, 14 year old twins, and a 12 year old. But it wasn’t until I was a mom myself that I understood what my mother had endured (seriously!) with my sisters and me. Cooking, cleaning, driving, etc. etc. I could go on and on, but if you are a mother, you know what I mean.

I am also a registered dietitian and have been for 16 years, but I was not always a healthy eater nor was I very interested in nutrition when I was growing up. In fact, there might be a few friends from high school and college who chuckle at the thought of me choosing this career path. I was an active kid, but I clearly had a sweet tooth, and I didn’t mind eating fast food, junk food, and quite a bit of candy during my teen years. However, what I could always count on was a healthy, balanced, and delicious family dinner at home every night. I am pretty sure my mom wasn’t aware of the research that supports the importance of family meals back then, but her instincts were right. My husband and I have kept that tradition going with our own family, and I feel strongly that it’s one of the most important jobs we do.
