Tribute to my Mom
May 16, 2017 |
Hi and welcome! I’m Susannah, and I can’t wait to share nutrition tips and healthy recipes with you on this blog! Since Mother’s Day was Sunday, I thought I would begin by introducing myself and saying “Thank you” to my mother. Just a little bit about me first…I am a mom. I have 3 girls, 14 year old twins, and a 12 year old. But it wasn’t until I was a mom myself that I understood what my mother had endured (seriously!) with my sisters and me. Cooking, cleaning, driving, etc. etc. I could go on and on, but if you are a mother, you know what I mean.
I am also a registered dietitian and have been for 16 years, but I was not always a healthy eater nor was I very interested in nutrition when I was growing up. In fact, there might be a few friends from high school and college who chuckle at the thought of me choosing this career path. I was an active kid, but I clearly had a sweet tooth, and I didn’t mind eating fast food, junk food, and quite a bit of candy during my teen years. However, what I could always count on was a healthy, balanced, and delicious family dinner at home every night. I am pretty sure my mom wasn’t aware of the research that supports the importance of family meals back then, but her instincts were right. My husband and I have kept that tradition going with our own family, and I feel strongly that it’s one of the most important jobs we do. For more on the benefits of family meals, tips on feeding your family well, and healthy recipes, stay tuned! In the meantime…
Thanks Mom and Happy Mother’s Day to you and all the moms out there!
